Qonic Celebrates Three Years of Innovation and Growth in the AEC Industry

Qonic proudly marks its third anniversary since its founding in November 2021. From the very beginning, Qonic set out to address long-standing challenges in the BIM space. Reflecting on the company’s origin, Erik De Keyser, one of Qonic’s founders, explains:

“We were driven by the frustrating limitations of traditional BIM tools—file-based systems, complex interfaces, a lack of real collaboration, and no cloud compatibility. These challenges inspired us to rethink what BIM could be.”

Building on decades of expertise in solid modeling, detailing, and process automation, the Qonic team envisioned a solution to overcome these obstacles. The result: geometry and data stored in a database instead of files, IFC as the foundation for collaboration, 100% cloud-based technology with streaming for unparalleled performance, and an intuitive user interface designed for all stakeholders in a BIM project, large or small.

From crafting an initial prototype and hosting our first events, to achieving major milestones like our closed and open beta versions in 2023 and the official launch of Qonic in April 2024, our journey has been one of relentless learning, collaboration, and innovation.

Highlights from Three Years of Achievements:

  • 2021-2022: After our founding, we introduced foundational tools like IFC import, rendering capabilities, and data exploration and editing, setting the stage for smarter BIM workflows.
  • 2023: With advancements such as AtomIFC, browser-based functionality, and the launch of our closed and open beta versions, we brought Qonic closer to users, enabling collaborative and efficient BIM solutions.
  • 2024: We officially launched Qonic, introduced multiplayer modeling, custom libraries, and tools like Boolean operations and spatial relations, all designed to make BIM faster, easier, and more accurate.

Our Mission and Vision

At Qonic, we are committed to transforming the AEC industry with smart 3D tools that elevate the level of detail in designs, minimize construction risks, reduce delays, and control costs. By automating repetitive tasks and providing collaborative, scalable, and efficient tools, our technology empowers AEC professionals to work smarter and more effectively. Blending cutting-edge web and cloud technologies with our team’s deep expertise in AEC, we aim to bridge the gap between design and construction, making accurate and enriched BIM accessible to all stakeholders.

Looking ahead, Qonic’s roadmap includes advanced automations designed to augment users by handling mundane and repetitive tasks, such as auto-classification for building elements to streamline quantity takeoffs. Intuitive new modeling features will make detailing faster and more seamless, while enhanced collaboration will come through multi-model functionality, integrated clash detection, an updated dashboard, and a mobile app for on-the-go access.

As we celebrate three years of innovation, we remain focused on driving progress and empowering AEC professionals to achieve more.
