Discover Qonic: BIM without boundaries

Thanks to everyone who joined our recent “Discover Qonic” webinar! For those who couldn’t make it live, or want a recap, here’s a breakdown of what we covered. We set out to explain who Qonic is, where it’s headed, and why we believe BIM is ready for a fundamental reset.

Who is Qonic?

Qonic isn’t your typical startup. We’re a team of over 40 people with experience in the AEC industry. Many of us have been involved in developing 3D modeling software for years, which gives us a unique understanding of the industry’s needs and how to create truly valuable software.

Our host, Aaron Perry, formerly a digital design lead at a London architecture practice, kicked things off by explaining the why:

“BIM is powerful, but too often it’s slowed down by clunky software, messy file formats, and restrictive licenses that block collaboration.”

With Qonic, we’re building a cloud platform that’s fast, works anywhere, and lets everyone jump in without restrictions. Unlike startups driven by external investment, Qonic is independent. This allows us to focus on building the solutions our users need, without being swayed by trends or investor demands.

Our mission: Built without boundaries

Qonic is built to be the fastest BIM platform out there, with no limits holding you back. It is built on four core principles:

  • Fast data, instant answers: Qonic runs large models, even full cities, without lag.

  • Access from anywhere: Desktop, Mac, tablet or phone, just open a browser, and you’re good to go. You don’t need fancy hardware.

  • Unlimited users: Collaboration shouldn’t depend on your license count. Everyone on the team, architects, contractors, consultants, clients, can access what they need.

  • Zero disruption: Qonic brings together models from Revit, Rhino and IFC into one synced environment.

Demo: Qonic in action

Smooth performance

Jacob De Sutter, our Head of Customer Succes, began by demonstrating Qonic’s exceptional performance. He opened a project of 10 different discipline models and navigated it with remarkable smoothness, even zooming in to a 2 cm sprinkler head without slowdowns. He loaded the entire city of London to demonstrate Qonic’s ability to handle massive datasets with smooth frame rates.

3D Modelling

Qonic isn’t just a viewer, it’s powered by a full-blown solid modeling engine. You can slice slabs, move walls, update materials, and add insulation in seconds. Qonic understands what you’re doing. Move a door and the opening comes with it. Move a wall and the nearby walls and doors adjust automatically.

Data management

Jacob selected 4.400 steel beams and added properties like fire ratings or custom steel classes in a few seconds. He tagged them with NRM codes for quantity takeoffs, and created reports straight from the model’s geometry.

Clash detection

Coordination is a huge part of BIM, so Jacob ran a clash check between the structural and plumbing models. Qonic flagged over 400 issues, and let him resolve them in real-time, in the same platform. No need to go back and forth between apps or exporting reports. You can even check soft clashes and assign follow-ups with the new Issues Center, coming out soon.

Real-time collaboration

Jacob wrapped up by showing two users editing the same model at the same time. One sliced foundation slabs. The other fixed clashes. Qonic tracked both sets of changes separately and then synced them automatically without overwriting each other.

To maximize accessibility, Qonic is available across multiple platforms: desktop application, web browser, and mobile apps (Android and iOS). The mobile apps currently offer read-only access with measurement and reporting capabilities, with plans to enable data editing in future updates.

Why Qonic matters

Let’s be real, BIM often feels like a puzzle of disconnected tools: one for modelling, one for viewing, another for takeoffs, yet another for clash detection. That’s time lost and ROI leaking. Qonic brings it all together. One platform for design, coordination, data, and reporting. Aaron said it best:

“Qonic is about accurate, accessible, synchronised workflows, from start to finish.”

What’s next?

We’re just getting started. In 2025, we’re shipping new features every month. And as your models get richer in geometry and data, Qonic will unlock even more value: supporting machine learning tools that help predict errors, optimise design decisions, and automate repetitive work. Soon, you’ll also automate drawings from your BIM model, configure templates, and customize annotations.

Thanks for being part of it!

The Discover Qonic webinar wasn’t just a product pitch, it was the start of an ongoing conversation. We’re building Qonic with and for the people who use it every day. If you have feedback, questions, or want a closer look at what Qonic can do for your team, we’d love to hear from you.

Below are some of the questions that were asked during the Q&A.

  • Q: Is there a bidirectional between Qonic and the revit model when your issues in Qonic are resolved?
  • A: You can bring your changes back into revit with our plugin soon!
  • Q: Loving the git approach. Will you be able yo apply this at elemental level in the instance of a merge conflict?
  • A: That’s on the Roadmap.
  • Q: Can you save the current Report settings so you can view and export the results again later? Or will you have to set up the report again at that time?
  • A: At the moment, you can already save some settings as a template, but we’re actively working on enabling full report templates so you can easily reuse and export them later.
  • Q: Is the Roadmap public where people can view what is on it?
  • A: No, but we post regular sneak peaks on LinkedIn and you find our Release Notes here on the Community.
