As the anticipated Component editing environment, with constraints and parametrics framework arrives it’d be worth examining the viability of integrating ‘Scaffcalc’ as a Scaffolding Toolset in parallel.
Both projects are Cloud Platform based with a WebGPU back end, both projects are young, ambitious, forward thinking.
Qonic has solid foundational BIM 2.0, direct modelling, 2D drawings, and soon Component Editing environments, but needs structural analysis/expertise.
Scaffcalc.com has a dedicated scaffolding component toolset and strong engineering analysis framework, but needs more advanced direct modelling/drafting tools to model up ‘As Built’ reference models and more advanced 2D drawing capabilities.
In cooperation, if projects integrate, Qonic could be a formidable platform for scaffold design, potential growth into formwork design, structural steel and concrete design areas.
The important & centralised aspect of Scaffold design, (by nature of it being temporary works), are that scaffolds are almost always around existing As Built structures, (Reference Models) or on topology with a laser scan used as reference. Reference models are placed on locked layers.
Because of this, strong/universal file ‘IMPORT’ (not file linking) is required to ensure the delivered scaffold is present to the client around their As Built plant/equipment as one deliverable, (the other being 2D drawings to understand the bay dimensions).
Typically we receive reference model files as NWD, STEP, IFC, SAT, DXF, DWG, STL, RVT, RFA, SKP, e57, LAS, LAZ, RCP, RCS etc
The final requirement is the Pricing/Plan Structure.
Scaffold/Formwork designs are typically on many different project sites, mostly small foot print, some times Ad Hoc, 10m x 10m, sometimes 100m x 100m. The Sq metre plans Qonic offer have aren’t particularly suitable.
Maybe consider a ‘per designer’ (per seat) rate per year.
Eg if we pay $4,500 AU per year for Autodesk AEC Suite (AutoCAD, Revit, Navis, Advance Steel) consider $3,500 Qonic/Scaffcalc per designer.
This way each user’s account can design as many scaffolds where ever they are, however big they are.
The designs the individual creates are shown in their user account and they can add ‘users as Viewers’, of course they can go back in the Project/Designs hierarchy to see all the companies designs of all the other users.
