Qonic July Release Notes

We’re back with a fresh round of improvements to help you work faster and cleaner. From smoother snapping to smarter classification and better Revit export handling, this release is all about making your daily BIM workflows that little bit easier.

Here’s what’s new this month:

Modelling

  • Improved Snapping (Free Move Tool): You can now snap directly to linear edges. This makes it much easier to align elements precisely, especially when working with complex geometry or grids.

  • Add Layer Improvements: We’ve ironed out a few issues with Add Layer for multi-BREP objects, so geometry behaves as expected when stacking layers.

  • Laser Tool Fix – Thickness Mode: The thickness measurement mode now gives reliable results, so you get the accurate feedback you need when inspecting layered geometry.

Data Management

  • Group Components by Version, GUID and Type: It’s now easier to structure and review your models. Components can be grouped automatically based on their version, GUID or type.

  • Material Transfer Fix: Materials now stay intact when moving elements between models, helping you maintain clean and consistent data across the board.

  • Browse Panel Improvements:

    • Better handling of grouped materials
    • Faster loading, especially in large projects
  • Improved Issue Tracking: When an entire model is moved, you’ll now get a clear notification in the version compare view so everyone stays on the same page.

Interoperability

  • Live Link with bSDD:
Big news for structured data: Qonic now connects directly to the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD). You can search, select and link standardised class definitions and properties, making it much easier to keep your data consistent and compliant.

  • Extended Revit Export Support:

    • We’ve added support for more Revit built-in categories, which are now correctly mapped to IFC classes.
    • Revit files from unsupported versions are now blocked automatically.
  • IFC Export Fixes: Exported files now reliably include IfcProject, ensuring models behave properly in downstream tools.

  • Rhino Transform Fixes:
Shear transforms from Rhino are now correctly interpreted during import, preserving the geometry you intended.

Dashboard

  • New Locations Library Actions: Managing spatial structure just got easier with better controls for editing location hierarchies.

  • Updated Version Compare UI: Cleaner layout, clearer insights so your team can track changes more effectively.

  • New Choice Modal: We’ve introduced a new selection dialog that makes picking options faster and more intuitive.

  • Misc Fixes:

    • Avatar images now update correctly after upload
    • Overlapping model states are resolved
    • You can now open version history items directly from the context menu

Platform & User Interface

  • Tooltip Behaviour Fixes: Tooltips now display where expected, improving usability across all tools.

  • MacOS Shortcuts: Meta key actions are now limited to Mac users, avoiding unintended behaviour elsewhere.

  • Export Panel Improvements: Export panels have been upgraded with a more stable and consistent SSE integration.

Revit Plugin

  • Crash Fix – Revit File Version: Uploads from unsupported or unexpected Revit versions no longer cause issues.

  • Improved IFC Mapping: A more robust link between Revit categories and IFC classes allows for better automatic classification when working cross-platform.

Bug Fixes & Performance Optimisations

  • Fixed crash when generating sections for the first time
  • Solved rare crash in Revit plugin (GetRevitFileVersion)
  • Tooltip alignment now behaves as expected
  • Fixed issue with special characters during bulk upload
  • Visibility bug in property set type input resolved
  • Centralised role management for easier permission handling
  • Fixed issue where comparison parameters weren’t passed correctly

Thanks for following along with this month’s release.
Big or small, every improvement we make is designed to help you spend less time fighting your tools and more time building better projects.
